Erasmus: 35th anniversary of the programme. To mark the 35th anniversary of its launch, the Erasmus programme is being honoured with a commemorative €2 coin.

In 2022, Joaquin Jimenez won the competition launched by the European Commission. His design will be minted and circulated in most eurozone Member States. The name of the programme is inspired by the humanist canon, philosopher and theologian Erasmus, who throughout his life campaigned for peace in Europe in the hope of seeing a more unified and inclusive Europe.

The programme was adopted in 1987 by the European Commission. Its aim is to facilitate the mobility of people wishing to study, do an internship or volunteer in one of the programme's member countries.
